Stop the Bara-Bara Marketing — Review Your Market Penetration First
armando bartolome | October 3, 2026
I see this all the time: an entrepreneur decides business is slow, so they jump onto every platform at once — Facebook, TikTok, Instagram, Viber groups, flyers, tarpaulins — hoping something sticks. Ito ang tinatawag kong bara-bara approach. Busy, exhausting, and often, surprisingly ineffective. Because being everywhere isn't the same as being where your customers actually are. In 35 years of mentoring entrepreneurs, one of the most common mistakes I see isn't a lack of effort — it's a lack of focus. Owners spread themselves thin across platforms without ever asking the more important question first: where is my market actually penetrated, and where am I simply throwing noise into the void? Start by reviewing where your real customers already come from. Understand that different platforms serve different intentions. Ask where your specific customer already spends their time. Measure penetration, not just visibility. Choose fewer platforms, and go deeper. Bara-bara feels productive because you're busy. But busy isn't the same as strategic. The moment you stop chasing every platform and start reviewing where your market truly is, your marketing stops being noise — and starts becoming a real, focused conversation with the people who are actually ready to buy. If you want help reviewing your market penetration and building a focused platform strategy that actually converts, GMB Franchise Developers has been guiding entrepreneurs through exactly this since 1991. Before adding a new platform, look honestly at your existing data. Where do your paying customers actually find you? Which channel brings inquiries that convert, not just likes and comments? Many owners are surprised to discover that one quiet channel — like referrals or a single Facebook group — is doing more work than five platforms combined.
Facebook tends to build trust and community over time. Instagram sells a lifestyle and aesthetic. TikTok rewards entertainment and discovery, not direct selling. LinkedIn builds credibility with a more professional audience. When you use every platform the same way, you're not multiplying your reach — you're diluting your message.
A negosyo selling premium home-cooked meals to busy professionals will find more traction on Facebook and Viber communities than TikTok trends. A youth-focused streetwear brand may find the opposite. Market penetration isn't about presence everywhere — it's about depth where it matters.
Being seen is not the same as being chosen. Track how many people who see your content actually inquire, and how many who inquire actually buy. A platform with fewer followers but higher conversion is doing more for your business than one with impressive numbers and silence in your inbox.
The entrepreneurs I've seen grow the most sustainably are rarely the ones doing everything. They're the ones who chose two or three platforms aligned with their actual customer, and committed to consistency and quality there — instead of spreading thin energy across everywhere at once.
